The Throat Chakra

Your Throat Chakra – What Does it Need?

Adapted from The Triple Goddess Tarot, by Isha Lerner (Bear & Company, 2002).

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless. – Mother Teresa

The throat chakra is a transmitter of truth, freedom, and clarity. It is located in the throat and neck region of the body and extends upward to include the lower region of the brain or cortex. This area of the physical body holds the communication center, and the gateway to inner and outer worlds. What does your Throat Chakra need so you can fully express who you are?

Singing, chanting, acting, and toning are all activities that vibrate from the Throat Chakra. Holding tension in the Throat Chakra is often due to lack of support in the early years regarding self-expression and freedom of speech. With a healed and healthy Throat Chakra, one’s words are kind, thoughtful, clear, and truthful. The voice is strong and alive with many tones of expression. Usually there is ease with writing, speaking, and sharing thoughts with others. A healthy Throat Chakra cannot sustain lies, coercion, or manipulation.

Attributes of the Throat Chakra:
Function: Communication, creativity, and connection
Color: Blue
Musical Note: A
Healing Flower: Morning glory
Animal Totems: Hawk, whale, and hummingbird
Foods: Fruits
Herb: Frankincense
Gemstone: Turquoise

Through the Throat Chakra one may speak long-held truths of past hurts and, in the process, find much inner peace and a sense of personal freedom. In this way, the throat is a gateway between the mind and body.

Affirmations:
I am the messenger.
I speak the sweet whispers of the heart.
I sing my song.
I speak my truth with clarity and courage.
I am the essence of sound vibration.

More Information on The Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra

The Crown chakra is situated at the top of the head. This chakra governs part of the spinal cord, the stem of the brain, pain centre of the brain and part of the nerves. When people become sick and suffer a lot of pain that they cannot handle, it is because the energy flow is blocked to this chakra. . . A lot of people are able to control their pain fresh hold levels through focusing on this chakra and flowing energy through, to stop any pain that is inflicting them. A lot of ancient warriors in Japan were able to be beaten and not feel the pain. Different cultural people who use to walk on hot coals, beat themselves and stitch sharp objects into their bodies, could come away from these ceremonies without any physical burns, wounds and pain, through the focusing and belief in this centre, and it’s role in understanding divine belief. . .

This centre through special focusing and breathing can control all pain. This is because it governs the organs and nerve centers that control our pain.

When not functioning properly on a physical level this chakra causes a loss of control over a person’s ability to live and interact with the world. Some people suffer from dis-eases that cause them to lose movement. Some of the problems that come from this chakra are blindness, deafness, paraplegics. Loss of limbs and any disease that attacks the nervous system, brain stem and spinal cord. There is a loss of energy flow and more so belief, which causes this chakra to become unbalanced.

This chakra is the chakra that can create miracles. If you believe and have hope, working with this chakra can bring about true healing on any level.

When functioning positively on the physical level. You will feel alive and filled with spiritual energy. Your health is radiant and your are strong in mind, body and spirit.

The Crown is at the very top of the body. . . As the base chakra connects us to Mother Earth, the crown chakra connects us to the heavens, to the stars and beyond. The sky and all the power and wisdom that belongs to our higher mind. This chakra is truly an amazing and life force energy channel for healing and spiritual awakening.

This chakra governs the connection that we have to the Divine. This chakra embodies belief, unconditional love and beauty.

When we believe, we are open to learning. When we learn we open ourselves to life’s experiences that challenge us to grow and evolve into better people.

When we open ourselves to unconditional love, we allow ourselves to love and accept all beings. We are free from judgment and we are non racial to others and their beliefs. We embrace the concept that we are apart of every living thing that exists. If you believe in God, the Creator or Great spirit, you believe that these beings are apart of you. . . With unconditional love you are ready to accept other cultures and their beliefs. You embrace the concept of brother hood and sisterhood.

Beauty is within. We are all beautiful. When we truly open our hearts and our eyes we see the beauty in all life. We are able to look at others who suffer from defects and scars with love and compassion instead of embarrassment and pity. We are able to focus on the beauty rather then the scaring. In fact a lot of us do not recognize afflictions on people unless pointed out to us.

On a spiritual level, the Crown chakra is our connection to healing and life force energy. This centre is connected to your higher mind. Your higher mind is the part of you that knows all the answers.

You are able to communicate to the trees, the animals and to mother earth herself. When you open this chakra up, you can channel through spirits from different planes, aliens and many more beings that communicate on this level.

This chakra can also send healing energy down through to the others’ chakras. Telepathy is a form of communicating messages to other people. If you find that you can sense a friend or family member trying to make contact with you, it is because your crown chakra is opened and you are using this centre to send out and receive messages.

The Crown chakra is like a transmitter to the whole universe. If you send out thoughts and ideals, dreams and goals through this chakra you will be heard and a lot of the times your prayers are answered. However you must learn to use this chakra to do this. I found through doing Reiki I was able to send out healing and also set up positive outcomes to events in my life through using this chakra as a transmitter. It worked. Now I use it all the time to help myself, my friends and my family and most importantly Mother earth.

There are two major colours that you can use with this chakra. One is purple and the other is white. White represents all the colors combined together. So all the energies that exist with all the colors flow and vibrate a powerful healing frequency through this chakra. White is divine, pure, honest and new.

Through inner healing and deep meditation we are able to unlock our true potential.

The clear quartz crystal is one of the most powerful crystals on earth. It promotes clarity and transmits energy that opens us up to all the wisdom of the universe. This crystal is very powerful when you focused it on the crown chakra.

Saint of the Day for June 29th is St. Peter

Saint of the Day

St. Peter

Simon Peter or Cephas, the first pope, Prince of the Apostles, and founder, with St. Paul, of the see of Rome.

Peter was a native of Bethsaida, near Lake Tiberias, the son of John, and worked, like his brother St. Andrew, as a fisherman on Lake Genesareth. Andrew introduced Peter to Jesus, and Christ called Peter to become adisciple. In Luke is recounted the story that Peter caught so large an amount of fish that he fell down before the feet of Jesus and was told by the Lord, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men”. Jesus also gave Simon a new name: Cephas, or the rock. Becoming a disciple of Jesus, Peter acknowledged him as “… the Messiah, the son of the living God”. Christ responded by saying: “… you are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church…. He added: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”. Peter was always listed as the first of the Apostles in all of the New Testament accounts and was a member of the inner circle of Jesus, with James and John. He is recorded more than any other disciple, and was at Jesus’ side at the Transfiguration, the raising of Jairus’ daughter, and the Agony of the Garden of Gethsemane. He helped organize the Last Supper and played a major role in the events of the Passion. When the Master was arrested, he cut off the right ear of a slave of the high priest Malchus and then denied Christ three times as the Lord predicted. Peter then “went out and began to weep bitterly”. After the Resurrection, Peter went to the tomb with the “other disciple” after being told of the event by the women. The first appearance of the Risen Christ was before Peter, ahead of the other disciples, and when the Lord came before the disciples at Tiberias, he gave to Peter the famous command to “Feed my lambs…. Tend my sheep…. Feed my sheep”. In the time immediately after the Ascension, Peter stood as the unquestionable head of the Apostles, his position made evident in the Acts. He appointed the replacement of Judas Iscariot; he spoke first to the crowds that had assembled after the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost; he was the first Apostle to perform miracles in the name of the Lord; and he rendered judgment upon the deceitful Ananias and Sapphira. Peter was instrumental in bringing the Gospel to the Gentiles. He baptized the Roman pagan Cornelius, and at the Council of Jerusalem he gave his support to preaching to Gentiles, thereby permitting the new Church to become universal. Imprisoned by King Herod Agrippa, he was aided in an escape by an angel. He then resumed his apostolate in Jerusalem and his missionary efforts included travels to such cities of the pagan world as Antioch, Corinth, and eventually Rome. He made reference to the Eternal City in his first Epistle by noting that he writes from Babylon . It is certain that Peter died in Rome and that his martyrdom came during the reign of Emperor Nero, probably in 64. Testimony of his martyrdom is extensive, including Origen, Eusebius of Caesarea, St. Clement I of Rome, St. Ignatius, and St. Irenaeus. According to rich tradition, Peter was crucified on the Vatican Hill upside down because he declared himself unworthy to die in the same manner as the Lord. He was then buried on Vatican Hill, and excavations under St. Peter’s Basilica have unearthed his probable tomb, and his relics are now enshrined under the high altar of St. Peter’s. From the earliest days of the Church, Peter was recognized as the Prince of the Apostles and the first Supreme Pontiff; his see, Rome, has thus enjoyed the position of primacy over the entire Catholic Church. While Peter’s chief feast day is June 29, he is also honored on February 22 and November 18. In liturgical art, he is depicted as an elderly man holding a key and a book. His symbols include an inverted cross, a boat, and the cock.

Her Story

West African, Brazilian and Afro-Caribbean goddess Yemaya is Mother Water, orisha of the oceans. She represents mother love and the affairs of women – fertility, children, birthing, the home and family. She is the merciful goddess of creation and protector of women during conception and childbirth, and of children during their childhood. She is the deep ocean of comfort for those in need.

African deities (orishas) are usually represented by flowing, swirling images of colour and movement, depicting the elemental energies rather than an anthropomorphised image. Yemaya’s energy is depicted with sky blue, white and silver swirling colour. In other images, she is a mermaid or a beautiful woman.

Yemaya brings forth and protects life through all the highs and lows, even during the worst atrocities that can be suffered. She reminds women to take time out for themselves, to nurture their own needs and to respect their deserved position in life.

Her Modern Energy

If Yemaya is speaking to you today, ask yourself, who or what is it that is taking all your time and energy? Whose problems are you trying to fix at the expense of your own vital energy? And why are you trying to fix them? (For approval?) Yemaya does not ask that you conquer your problems nor dominate the source of your problems, but instead to learn how to dance with the ebb and flow of the inevitability of the life cycle.

Yemaya gives you permission to pamper yourself, and for one week at least, to retire from being the “fixer”, the “nurturer”, the “servant”. The world will not end if you withdraw to take care of yourself for a while.

Reconnect With Your Inner Yemaya

Spend some time this week building a shrine to Yemaya, with ocean-sourced items (especially the conch shell), crystal and silver objects, and symbols to represent the moon and stars.

On a Saturday, enjoy watermelon and brew your own raspberry leaf tea (this will take around two weeks to prepare).

Raspberry leaf tea: Tie organically grown raspberry leaves in a bunch and hang in a warm, dark area until dry. Strip the leaves, crumble them into your favourite tea-pot or cauldron, and brew Yemaya’s tea. Take your time to drink this – cancel appointments and other demands for your time, and let yourself truly, purely, “be” in the moment!

Alternatively, on a full moon, invoke Yemaya’s energy by “drawing down the moon”. Here is a suggestion that is in Ffiona Morgan’s book, “Goddess Spirituality”. This ritual can be done as a private ritual with yourself, preferably outside under the full moon. (If it is not possible to go outside, you can sit or stand facing a window in view of the moon, with the moon’s rays shining in on you.)

Start by chanting ‘Ma’, ‘Yemaya’, or ‘Luna’ for five or ten minutes, to raise energy for the drawing down. Then place your hands with palms facing the moon, index fingers and thumbs touching, forming the sacred triangle, or sign of the yoni. Spread your fingers as wide as possible, so they are receptors for moon energy. After you chant to raise power, focus all your energy and vision on Mother Moon and draw her energy down into your body. Move your hands, if desired, back and forth, from arms-outstretched position to your heart and back again. After a few minutes of holding your hands up to the moon, you can feel them tingle. This is magical energy. This can take 15-20 minutes, but you may take more or less time, there are no rules. Here are some songs and chants to the moon:

“Yemaya, O Lo Do, Agua Lo Do Mi O”
(repeat over and over again)
“Moon, Moon, Moon on my mind, think I’ll fly”
(repeat over and over again)
Simple Shower Ritual

First, gather your shower and ritual tools. You will need a bar of soap (pick one that is special to you because of the scent or whatever), a big, fluffy white towel, 3 white votives or pillars and your favourite incense. Pick a soothing CD to put on.

Next, arrange the candles, put on the CD and light the incense. Hang your towel nearby. Take 5 deep breaths, centre, and ground yourself before beginning.

Take the soap and carve a pentagram on both sides of the soap. Ask for the sense and presence of the Goddess. Hold the bar in the air and say these words:

O Mother Goddess,

Bless this soap that you have seen
Soap to make me pure and clean.
Clear away all dirt and grime
Protect my body all the time.

Blessed be.

Place it in the soap holder.

Lastly, take each candle and carve a pentacle or protective rune on its side. Grab all three candles in your hands and repeat these words:

Candles that I light this day,
Keep all evil thoughts away.
As the water washes me,
Burn out all negativity. Blessed be.

Kiss each candle then light it. Now you are ready for your shower.

As the water runs over you visualise all your stress, sadness and worries rinsing away, the bubbles cleaning off dirt and leaving your skin glowing with a radiant white glow all around you. This will keep you feeling strong and protected all through the day. Thank the Goddess for her presence and put all tools away for next time.
