Moon Signs

Just as the sun does, the moon travels through the constellations of stars that we call the zodiac; or astrological signs. Whereas the sun take a year to travel through them all, spending approximately thirty days in  each sign, the moon usually spends two and a half days in a sign, thus  passing through the whole zodiac in approximately one lunar month. Does the moon actually travel through these signs? No, of course not. It appears to do so from our vantage point on Earth, however.

Each sign has a different personality that affects the lunar (or solar) energy when the luminary is passing through it. For example, if your spell is to help you meet new people, then you might choose to cast it when the moon is in the sign of Libra, the sign associated with social issues.  The lunar energy you use to power your spell will be enhanced with Libran energy. Here’s a list of correspondences for the signs of the Zodiac. The correspondences are applicable to the moon, and of course to the sun as well:

  • Aries   energy is good for new beginnings and action

  • Taurus   energy is good for manifestation

  • Gemini   energy is excellent for communication and intellectual pursuits

  • Cancer   energy is associated with family and the home

  • Leo   energy is good for success

  • Virgo   energy is organized and practical

  • Libra   energy is terrific for social issues

  • Scorpio   energy is passionate and just

  • Sagittarius   energy is associated with study

  • Capricorn   energy is stable and good for business issues

  • Aquarius   energy is excellent for issues involving groups of people

  • Pisces energy is associated with mysticism and spiritual evolution

General Horoscopes for July 15

The ambitious Capricorn Full Moon at 2:39 am EDT reflects our need to succeed at whatever we choose to do. But its opposition to the yielding Cancer Sun reminds us that we don’t always have to be in charge. Our desire to gain control over irrational feelings may be temporarily satisfied when the Moon shifts into emotionally detached Aquarius at 4:29 pm. Quicksilver Mercury’s alignment with Uranus provokes change by adding instability to mix.

Aries Horoscope
Aries Horoscope (Mar 21 – Apr 19)

Even if you want to stay home, today’s Moon in your 10th House of Public Responsibility indicates that you have a lot happening at work. You might have agreed to one too many projects and now you have to show up, even if you don’t feel like it. Thankfully, a methodical approach and consistent effort positively impact your progress toward reaching your goals.

Taurus Horoscope
Taurus Horoscope (Apr 20 – May 20)

You may be more determined than ever about taking an upcoming trip, even if your plans seem to be in jeopardy. Instead of just working harder, you will also need to think smarter. The Full Moon in your 9th House of Adventure is motivational, yet a breakthrough can’t occur if you’re unwilling to step outside of your safety zone and try something new. A calculated risk may be necessary to make something big happen.

Gemini Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope (May 21 – Jun 20)

You might not want to reveal everything you know today, because withholding information could give you an advantage in dealing with others. Even if you try to talk your way out of a complex issue, you won’t be able to avoid some pretty tough questions now. But don’t expect any straightforward answers because there aren’t any. Nevertheless, if you want a relationship to work, you need to go deeper into your emotions. Shared intimacy is a reward that you must be willing to work for on a regular basis.

Cancer Horoscope
Cancer Horoscope (June 21 – Jul 22)

Today’s Full Moon brightens your 7th House of Relationships, stirring up a bit of trouble or excitement. A current partnership could run into a wall that requires you to focus on your emotions and communicate what you’re feeling as clearly as you can. If there’s someone new in your life, resolving a touchy conflict now can set the foundation for what comes next. Either way, you’ll do better if you respond directly from your heart.

Leo Horoscope
Leo Horoscope (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

You need to maintain consistency in your daily routine, but it’s challenging if your heart isn’t connected to your actions today. You are only able to pretend for a while before your behavior has a negative impact on the day. Nevertheless, the practical Capricorn Full Moon illuminates your 6th House of Habits, telling you not to make any drastic changes to your regular schedule. Hold steady to your course; you’ll gain traction again soon enough.

Virgo Horoscope
Virgo Horoscope (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

The Full Moon lights up your 5th House of Self-Expression today, prompting you to reveal your feelings rather than analyze them. But your key planet Mercury nervously aspects high-strung Uranus, making it tricky to find the right words. Instead of trying to respond spontaneously as you’re experiencing an emotion, let it pass. Share what’s going on only after you’ve had time to process what just happened.

Libra Horoscope
Libra Horoscope (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

You’re eager to shine your light at work now that the radiant Sun is illuminating your 10th House of Career. However, the Full Moon occurs in your 4th House of Foundations, indicating that a situation at home needs your immediate attention, too. You might think that you can’t do everything, but your logic need not stop you from trying. Be innovative and look for solutions that are outside the box. Ultimately, you’re capable of a lot more than you currently believe.

Scorpio Horoscope
Scorpio Horoscope (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

Today’s sobering Capricorn Full Moon floods your 3rd House of Communication with data that might be overwhelming to integrate. The intensity has been building for a while, giving you the chance to prepare for the hectic pace of events. Don’t hesitate to lean on friends if you need support. Surprisingly, they will respond more positively than you expect. It may take a few days, but you’ll be able to get the rest you need.

Sagittarius Horoscope
Sagittarius Horoscope (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

You have one foot in the past and one in the future today. The restrictive Capricorn Full Moon falls in your 2nd House of Values, binding you to old beliefs and traditions. But trickster Mercury is buzzing in your 9th House of Expansion, tempting you to leave everything behind and make a mad dash forward. Unfortunately, your natural tendency to aim high means that you could overshoot your mark. Focus on reaching a conservative goal now, instead of falling short of an unrealistic one.

Capricorn Horoscope
Capricorn Horoscope (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

Someone with authority may require your support today. Thankfully, you’re sympathetic to other people’s pain as the Full Moon sensitizes your 1st House of Physicality. However, you might also try to hold someone else’s angst distant from your own feelings to protect your heart. Unfortunately, this defensive reaction can prevent you from being in touch with your emotions. Consciously listen with an open mind and then respond honestly from your heart.

Aquarius Horoscope
Aquarius Horoscope (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Today’s serious Capricorn Full Moon occurs in your 12th House of Destiny, foretelling the enduring consequences that your current choices can have. However, it’s easy to place too much importance on making your decision now and not enough on following through with concrete action. Don’t be so quick to talk about your plans; instead of putting your energy into unnecessary chatter, let others find out about your new direction from what you do.

Pisces Horoscope
Pisces Horoscope (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

You may think that others are trying to trick you into putting aside your personal agenda and following their plan as the Full Moon reflects the needs of your 11th House of Team Effort. Even if you’re an integral part of a workgroup, you might feel isolated if your ideas differ from everyone else’s. Nevertheless, it’s crucial to honor your instincts now and do what feels right. Don’t succumb to peer pressure just because you want to feel connected to others.

You will design a really wonderful new type of placemat, today, and it will make you fantastically wealthy, providing you get it on the market before your competitors.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Today you will take comfort in the thought that Jesus loves you, particularly since nobody else likes you very much.

Good day to curl up with a good book. Later, you will build a fort out of your furniture and some sheets, and shoot rubber bands at people.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Don’t you owe someone a thank-you note? If not, send one anyway — that’s always fun.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
While attempting to stifle a yawn today, you will accidentally make a loud “smooching” sound. Try bringing out your pager, and saying “these new models sure have some interesting sound options, don’t they?” I find that works well with several other forms of involuntary noises, as well.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
A Ph.D. degree in parapsychology is in your future. Despite what you may have heard, however, the corresponding career path is not terribly rewarding. You will get to see a lot of furniture move by itself, of course, so that’s a plus.

Aquarius (January 21 – February 18)
Tomorrow is a good day to wear your lucky Rocketship underwear. Try not to leap into rooms while shouting “Hark!” however.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
This week you will angrily tell someone that you are more than just a name and a number! You are also punctuation!

Affirmation of the Day for July 15th

Every day is a new beginning — Problems and mistakes of yesterday are now just memories of a lesson learned. I absorb the energy and possibilities of each new day, acknowledge the simple beauty that can be taken for granted, and look forward to tomorrow’s new beginning.

Four Quarter

You average wall calendar divides the moon’s cycle into four equal phases called the first quarter, second quarter, third quarter, and fourth quarter. It would be remarkably nifty if these four quarters  matched the waxing full-waning-dark classification that the layperson observes by looking up into the night sky, but it isn’t so. The four quarters are each seven days long and as you probably know by observation, the full moon doesn’t last a week-long, nor does the dark moon.

The first quarter begins with the dark moon. The sun, moon, and the earth are all lined up during the beginning of the lunar cycle. This is a terrific time to launch new projects or undertakings, because the sun’s energy is traveling along the same energy paths as the moon’s energy, giving you a two-for-one zip to your magick. The moon rises in the early morning and sets around sunset, rising and setting a bit later each day. This is why you don’t see the moon for about three days; it’s keeping the same hours and position that the sun is keeping. When  the moon reaches a point where it’s setting slightly  later than the sun, it can be seen as a luminous slim crescent hanging low in the western sky for a few minutes after the sun goes down.  The first quarter is a good time to work on issues involving children, animals, plants and motivation.

The second quarter begins halfway between the dark moon and the full moon. The moon is seen as a half circle, which rise around mid-day and sets around twelve at night. The second quarter is excellent for expansion, patience, peace, family and harmony.

The third quarter begins with the full moon, rising at sunset and setting at dawn,  The full moon is ideal for powering those ventures you started at the dark moon and for almost everything knowledge, love, money, protection, dreams and psychic powers. Two days after a full moon is when the moon appears to begin waning. This begins a time of decrease; where you can prune away old and outgrown thoughts and  habits and discard what is no longer benefiting you. Use this energy for health and healing (as in banishing illness), protection, difficult decision and easing stress.

The fourth quarter begins halfway between the full moon and the dark moon. The moon rises just after midnight and sets around noon. This energy is good for justice, endings, separation, and limiting action or expansion.

These quarters aren’t absolute, of course; the moon moves through them all sequentially, occupying a lightly different position each day.

Thank the Goddess It is Friday!!!

Well it’s another Friday. I hope your is being a very happy and blessed day! I hope you have plans for an exciting weekend. It was beautiful here last night. It was around 70 degrees and the humidity was low. I sit outside last night enjoying the beautiful Full Moon and eating an ice cream cone. It was wonderous! Looking at the moon got me to thinking. I bet every witch in the world can tell what spells is supposed to be done with the Full Moon, Dark Moon, Blue Moon, Waning Moon and Waxing. But do you know you know what kind of spells can be casted during the light of day? I know the new ones just coming to the Craft probably have no idea, some may (don’t get mad at me now, lol!). But it is something we seldom hear about. I know I am trying to run this blog were it will be a teaching aid. I don’t have a thing on here about those correspondences. But I think it is high time I did. So today, I will be posting about different correspondences and their meanings. I hope you enjoy and I must warn you, some of them are long.

The Goddess Companion

Pomona lived in ancient times,
a nymph whose merest touch would green
an orchard, would fill its boughs with fruit.
Oh how Pomona loved her orchards!
The rest of nature left her cold, but
fruit trees! apples! pears! These were
Pomona’s great delight, her fiercest joy.
She bore a knife, but not for hunting:
no, hers was used to trim a hedge
of rose or cherry-wood, or to prune
a fruitless tree, or graft an aged apple
so that it burst forth anew.
Orchards were her secret nurseries
and trees were her beloved ones
who never thirsted, never withered.
Oh! to live among Pomona’s trees!
Oh! to be loved as much as that!
~Ovid, Metamorphoses

The Roman Goddess Pomona was honored as the spirit of fruit trees, and also as the gardener who tends them. For many people, connection with nature occurs primarily through gardening. Even in urban areas, a pot of marigolds on a balcony will brighten the darkest day. The connection between people and plants is one that has always illuminated myth and ritual. Although few rituals exist today to celebrate the great productivity of plant and animal life each summer, we can build our own with friends and family. Eating the first corn, cutting the first ripe tomato, grilling fresh fish in the open air: if done consciously, these can become rituals of thanksgiving and love to the earth that sustains us.

Travel with Daydreams

Travel with Daydreams
Adapted from The World Dream Book
by Sarvananda Bluestone
Inner Traditions, 2002

While most of us cultivated the fine art of daydreaming as an escape
from boredom in school (a practice which serves some of us well at work,
too!), daydreams can be used to bring us to new places, teach us more
about ourselves, and enrich our lives.
Your daydreams are magical passports. Here’s how you can travel with
them:

1.) Find a place and time where and when you can do nothing. This kind
of daydreaming requires your full attention, so find a place and time in
which you have no responsibilities. Unlike ordinary daydreaming, this is
not about escaping from something. It is about going to something.

2.) Close your eyes. If you have your own way to relax, feel free to
employ it, but definitely close your eyes. Our eyesight can be a
distraction, and we don’t want to be distracted from our daydreaming.
You might want to take a few deep breaths, inhaling slowly through the
nose and exhaling slowly through the mouth.

3.) Think of something you have wanted to do and have not yet done.
Don’t just think about it–actively imagine what you want. The more
specific the images, the better.

4.) Do what you have wanted to do. Here’s the key. In a dream we can do
anything, we can be anywhere. We can travel through time and space. We
are not bound by logic or practicality. We can visit the dead, speak to
the unborn. There are no limits here other than those that you impose
upon yourself.
Again, be as concrete as you can be. If, for example, you’ve wanted to
visit France, be specific. France is a large place, but the waterfront,
at, say, Marseilles is more specific. I’ve never been there, but I can
conjure up a breeze from the sea and the smell of fish. Which leads
to…

5.) Pay attention to all of your senses. The problem with visualization
alone is that it focuses on one of the five senses–the sense of sight.
We do more than see when we dream. We feel, and sometimes we smell and
touch. Surely in our dreams our sense of sight is foremost–that’s how
we’ve been trained. But in a daydream we can use all our senses.
In my Marseilles daydream, I’d allow myself to imagine not only the
sight of the harbor but also the smell of the fish, the feeling of the
sea breeze on my skin, and the sound of the seagulls. The more senses,
the merrier the daydream.

6.) Let yourself explore. Now that you’ve reached the place where you’ve
wanted to go–explore. Walk, fly, swim if you want to.

7.) Do this more than once. Daydreaming takes practice. The more we do
it, the better we get at it. Once again, more of what we call
daydreaming is about getting away from a particular situation. In
imaginative daydreaming we create something to go toward. It takes
practice. The sky’s the limit!
