Sunday, The Day of the Sun

SUNDAY

The Day of the Sun

sunnandaeg (Anglo-Saxon)
sonntag (Germanic)
dies solis (Latin)
ravi-var (Hindu)
etwar (Islamic)
dimanche (French)
nichi youbi (Japanese)

Traditionally seen as the first day of the week by the ancient Hebrews and as identified by the fourth commandment (Exodus, xx, 8-11). This day was in ancient times dedicated to the Sun and later as ‘The Lord’s Day’. Sunday is traditionally a time for rest, reflection and worship. It is believed to be a lucky day for babies born on this day according to tradition as the child was thought to be safe from witches and evil spirits. Some born on this day are believed to have psychic or devining abilities. Any cures that are administered on a Sunday were believed to be more likely to succeed. In some parts of the British Isles (UK) there is a belief that announces that any agreements that are made on a Sunday are not legal as it will offend God to make any transactions of a day of reflection and dedicated to worship. In the USA this is enforced by the saying ‘ Never make plans on a Sunday’. In rural areas of the British Isles those employed for a new job on a Sunday would soon leave their post:

‘Saturday servants never stay,

Sunday servants run away.’

It was also thought to be unlucky to put clean sheets on the bed on a Sunday along with cutting your hair or nails. Regarding music, choir singers who sang a false note on this day were according to a traditional English (UK) belief expected to have a burnt Sunday dinner. You could expect a busy profitable week ahead, especially if you were in business, if you found a pair of gloves on this day, and quite naturally very unlucky to be the person who had lost them according to a rural English (UK) belief. A prehistoric cairn marks the spot of Druid worship where a Christian settlement was created Slieve Donhard, near Newcastle, England. Set up by Donhard (a convert of St. Patrick), pilgrimages regularly visit the place of worship, high on the hill, as it is said that St. Patrick himself appears as a result of Donhard’s faith each Sunday of the year. As he appears before everyone, it is said that St. Patrick also leads the people in the mass.  According to the English historian Richard Grafton certain dates of the month were unlucky as published in the ‘Manual’ in 1565. Days throughout the year were identified and of course could have related to any day of the week. The date was the most important point to consider. The work was reputed to have some credence with support given by astronomers of the day.

Good Sunday Afternoon to all of our dear, dear friends!

Good Sunday afternoon, dear friends! I hope you are having a fantastic weekend. Our weekend has been rather eventful around here. We had a transformer blow right across the road from us. It has took up till 11:15 a.m., this morning to get our power back. I guess that is what we get for living in the boonies :s. As many outages as we have had recently, I am ready to buy us a generator (if we had the money, lol!). The light company keeps blaming it on the ice storm we had about 3 or 4 years ago. To me, it looks like they would have had all that fixed. I am wondering when they are going to figure out that excuse is quite old. They are going to have to find something new to blame.

Well I thought I would update you on why everything just went blank yesterday. Hopefully we won’t have any outages today. If we do, I am going to get us a squirrel cage and let it produce our power, lol! Only problem, we would have to catch the squirrel!

I am going to run for now. I hope everyone has a super fantastic day.  Try not to do anymore than you have too!

Luv & Hugs,

Lady A

Good Lazy, Hazy Sunday Morning To All My Wonderful Friends!

Days of the Week Comments=

Good Sunday morning all! I must apologize for running late. I have been working on the blog. I am trying to get everything caught up and added the way it is suppose to be. I am going to get some information on the two blank page on the main screen today (one way or the other, lol!). Even if I have to hog tie a little bobcat! Razzy has been up playing like a wild kid. I am hoping I have wore her out and she will sleep for a couple of hours. She tickles me. The first thing she does in the morning is take her big paws and wrap them around my leg. This way she had ahold of me and I am not going anywhere. It is her way of telling me, “time to play, momma!” And she doesn’t play for a few minutes then quit. No, no, she plays for hours. Right now, we are down to about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I am hoping as she gets older, she will want to nap more. I hope!

Well how did you like yesterday’s blessing? Like I said it is one of my favorite ones. It is a little bit dirty but at least you can tell who doesn’t like you, lol! Here is another blessing I would like to leave you with today…..

May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been,

The foresight to know where you are going,

And the insight to know when you have gone too far”

Have a very blessed and relaxing Sunday, my friends!

Useful Tips You Can Use – 25 Awesome Uses for Old Newspaper

by Aidan Koch

As receiving your news from the internet quickly becomes the norm, getting the ‘paper’ in the morning is becoming a rare and special thing. Even if you just get it on Sundays, as soon as the day is done, that news is mostly obsolete. Instead of recycling your paper right away, maybe using one of these great ideas will save you some time and effort you didn’t even realize.

  • Roll into a megaphone
  • Fold into a sailor’s hat
  • Paste it up as wallpaper
  • Fold into a protective book cover
  • Make papier-mâché sculpture
  • Read it
  • Use as birdcage lining
  • Use to block windows
  • Use to protect floors when painting
  • Use to fill in holes and cracks
  • Make paper chains
  • Cut apart for scrapbooking or collage
  • Shred and reuse to make your own paper
  • Use as a dustpan
  • Use as kindling
  • Cover ground off season to prevent weeds
  • Accordion fold into a fan
  • Line your cabinets
  • Use as a rag
  • Wrap items when moving
  • Protect items when mailing
  • Use in shoes to maintain the shape
  • Wrap presents
  • Use as a tablecloth
  • Line your trash or compost

Good Sunday Morning, my dear friends! Have a Look, I’ve been taking pics again!

Good Morning Images, Quotes, Comments, Graphics
Good Sunday morning, dear, dear friends! How are you doing this morning? Me? I got up at 6:00 with wonderful intentions to do yard work. Ha, I took my medicine for my back and when right back to sleep. (For the new ones joining us, I had a three level back fusion.) I looked at the clock and thought, hmm, it can’t be that late. Yeah right, it was 11:00, I said,  “oh, sh*t!” Kiki and I do a lot of yard work together. When it is around lunch time, she doesn’t want to go outside because of the heat. Me neither, lol!

I have been out taking pics again and I wanted to show you what just showed up late yesterday. I got a call from a local vet and he asked if I would take in another critter for him. I asked him what kind and he told me, a beautiful red fox. I couldn’t believe it. It was brought to him with one of his back legs severely damaged. The poor thing, lost most of his foot and the rest of his leg and hip had to have pins. Needless to say, he is in quite a bit of pain. I give him pain shots every 4 hours and he stays sedated. I don’t believe if he didn’t, he could stand the pain. We aren’t sure what happened but the vet told me, some man just dropped him off and left. The man said nothing at all. So that led me to believe the man knew exactly what had happened. The vet said more than likely the poor thing had got caught in a trap. It wasn’t the intended victim, the man felt guilty about killing such a lovely creature and brought him to the vet. Now the question is, when the fox is out of the severe pain will he be able to function as he should. If not, he will have to have a home with a person. I never considered having a fox but if we bond during his recovery, then he will stay with me. Right now, he is very leery of humans and who can blame him. But here is his beautiful face.

This was taken while he was still under the influence of the sedatives. He had woke up just a minute and I had the camera in my back pocket. I snapped it very quickly. Then he went back to sleep. He is in a fairly good side inclosure. If he decides he wants to try to get up and walk and move, he can. I don’t believe in keeping animals in little crates or cages. All of the places I have for the animals to stay are quite large. It gives them a little freedom but they are still enclosed and safe. I might add they are also well protected and guarded.

The food bill I incur every month is huge, not to mention anything unexpected that might come up. I also always give the vets money for their supplies they use. I have received several donations towards these expenses. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate them too. No amount is too small. It all adds up and it is put to good use. You can see for yourself who and what benefits from the donations, the animals. Then on top of the bill for the upkeep and care of the animals, I also have a server that I have to pay each month also. So my funds get stretched to the max, to say the least. I want you to know that I appreciate ever donation that I get. If you would like to help keep the work I am doing with the animals going by making a donation. There is a PayPal button to the side here.

Remember no amount is too small, it all adds up. And most of all it is greatly appreciated. Thank you my friends, from the bottom of my heart. Because I truly love doing what I do.

Wishing You A Super Sun Shiny Sunday, dear ones!

Good Afternoon Images, Pictures, Comments
Hey, it’s hard thinking of new greetings each day, lol! I hope you are having a fantastic Sunday. I feel so good today there ought to be a law against it. The glorious Sun is shining, brightly. It looks so warm outside. I watched the Weather Broadcast this morning. The weatherman said it was going to be up in the 60’s and you better get out there and enjoy the day. Well dumb butt, believed him, I always wear shorts around the house. So I figured if it is supposed to be that warm, I would run out in them. I opened the door, not to bad. My big mistake was shutting the door. Good grief! The wind is blowing a gale and I think the wind chill is 10 degrees out there. It’s my own fault, I should know by now, never, ever trust the local weather people.

So I hope your morning is nice and warm. Remember if it looks warm outside, stick your toe out first. Well with that helpful tip, how about we get on with more important matters.

Have a Very Blessed Day!

Affirmation of the Day for Sun. January 29th

“I do not seek perfection – only to do the best that I  an. If others do better. I will admire them without envy while trying to do better myself.”

Thought of the Day for Sun. January 29th

The Flight of Icarus

According to Greek mythology, Icarus was a young man who tried to escape from a labyrinth wearing a pair of waxen wings made by his father Daedalus. However, despite his father’s warning. Icarus flew too close to the sun, his wings melted and he fell to the Earth. Hold this story in your mind to remind yourself of the need to balance idealism and aspiration with a realistic awareness of human limitation.
