General Meaning: The challenge of what has traditionally been known as the Hermit card is to be able to recognize a teacher in a humble disguise. This font of mysterious knowledge will not make it easy for the student to acquire his wisdom, as it takes time and long contemplation to fathom what he knows. He often speaks wordlessly, or in ancient and barbaric tongues, communicating with the elements, animals and Nature herself.

While the hourglass was an identifying feature on the earliest Hermit cards, more modern ones have shifted the metaphor, showing more or less light released from his lantern. In either case, the Hermit card reminds us of the value of time away from the hubbub of civic life, to relax the ego in communion with Nature.

Opportunities abound for starting a new romance or reviving interest in a current relationship this weekend. Things may start out slowly with the Moon in self-protective Cancer on Friday, which is better suited for low-key family events and a bit of rest and relaxation. Then there’s a dramatic shift of mood beginning very late on Friday night and kicking into high gear on Saturday.

The Sun and Moon join in the sign of the Lion, marking the New Moon in a dramatic fashion. This fiery lunation starts a fresh cycle that’s rich with energy, enthusiasm and extravagance. Some of us may go overboard in expressing ourselves, perhaps overwhelming shy individuals with the sheer force of our personalities. Proud and powerful Leo encourages us to be bold in our pursuit of love and happiness. The key to making magic happen is to avoid taking life too seriously.

When Leo is light and playful, it creates a delightful atmosphere in which everything feels like a game. We’re willing to open up and take risks with people who are fun, lively and straightforward. But when insecurity strikes and egos weaken, we tend to try too hard and might appear pompous or pretentious.

Generosity gets hearts beating faster during this demonstrative Leo lunar transit. When attention is put on making others happier, barriers drop and the road to romance opens.
