Your Deck of Ancient Symbols Card for May 11th is Solitude
| Your Deck of Ancient Symbols Card for Today |
||
Solitude Solitude is represented by a single person standing at the end of a boardwalk staring out at a vast, empty panorama. They are truly alone, but may not feel loneliness. They are at a place in their life where the need to withdraw from the our secular world is strong, because their focus should be on their inner self, their morality, and their dreams. The view before them is empty, but it is a canvas on which they may paint their future–a future restricted only by the size of their imagination and courage. For them Solitude is a choice. They chose to take the walkway that distances them from the rest of us. It is also a choice that can be undone. Just as they chose to take a path that leads them away from us, they may choose to turn around and come back at anytime. As a daily card, Solitude suggest a period in which you need to distance yourself from those around you and explore your inner-self, what is driving your day to day life and decide if you are really on the life path that is best for you. This is a time to revitalize your spirit, and draw your dreams for the future. |

I Was Never Promised
I Was Never Promised
I know as I sit here, I was never promised an easy life.
I was never promised happiness or comfortability.
I was never promised a roof over my head or food to eat on a daily basis.
I was never promised that my family or I would be healthy and I was never promised that I would develop friendships that I hold dearly.
I was never promised that today would be free and that I would have to exchange a day of my life for it.
I was never promised that I will make a better tomorrow and with the utmost humility, make a difference in many people’s lives.
I was never promised clothing to wear on a daily basis and a washing machine and dryer to clean and dry them.
I was never promised a direction in life and I certainly was not afforded a road map to get to where I belong.
I was never promised the luxury of an automobile or the money to put gas in it.
I was never promised that I would live in a modest home and fill it with the essentials to make a house, a home.
I was never promised, but I do promise, to never take for granted the things that have been so graciously given to me in my life…
I will give thanks on a daily basis for everything and everyone I touch and that touches me.
I, as I sit here writing this to you, I know in a blink of an eye, that all of these things that I have can be gone.
Gratitude, Gratitude, Gratitude…

Make A Zen Garden
A miniature Zen garden provides an excellent focus for meditation. To make one you will require a shallow dish, some sand, and some natural objects for the “features” (such as stones, leaves or small twigs). Choose these objects with care, bearing in mind that natural forms are sacred in Zen. Place the sand in the dish and position the features in a pleasing formation. Use your fingers to create wave-like patterns around each object, echoing the way in which water eddies around rocks and islands. When you meditate on your Zen garden, notice the paradoxical suggestion of stillness and movement that the effect creates.
