How You Deal With the Past According to Your Zodiac Sign

How You Deal With the Past According to Your Zodiac Sign

How do you feel about past loves, lost opportunities, and trauma long gone? Do you shrug them off and move on? Do you file them away as lessons learned? Or do you bring them out into the light, polish them up and continue to wonder, “what if?”. Everyone carries a degree of baggage around with them. Our past is part of who we are, but some people seem able to deal with it better than others. Could it be connected to your personality type? Astrology might offer a clue: how you deal with the past according to your zodiac sign.

Aries March 21 – April 19

Aries often experiences instant regret after making a snap decision. Sometimes they will take action to change it, but generally speaking, Aries is forward-looking and the past is firmly in the past. They tend not to learn from previous mistakes because their personality traits override those life-lessons. Often Aries will repeat the same old behavior, even if it is dressed up in new clothes. Baggage? What baggage?

Taurus April 20 – May 20

Good memories, for Taurus, are like beautiful gems: there to be loved and admired throughout the years. However, bad or uncomfortable memories are goads that push the bull forward. Their stubbornness and determination to do better is enhanced by the recollection of those situations that they never want to experience again. The way they deal with the past means Taurus rarely makes the same mistake twice.

Gemini May 21 – June 20

Gemini’s butterfly mind can take a past trauma and turn it around so it was the best thing in the world. And vice versa. Whatever emotion they are experiencing in the moment acts as a veneer over the past. Whether they learn anything from this is debatable. For Gemini the past is a changing, amorphous thing—it’s never set in stone.

Cancer June 21 – July 22

Cancer can become locked in the past. Chewing over old hurts. Wondering about long-gone love. Traumatized by the anniversaries of upsetting events. Cancer is able to link the present to the past with no effort at all. S/he must learn to let go, and understand all that pain and hurt is water under the bridge. You can’t change it now.

Leo July 23 – August 22

Leo will sometimes revisit their past physically, not just in memory. This is because from where they are in the present they can still see potential in an old relationship. Being hot-headed and impulsive, they have no compunctions about phoning an old flame and rekindling the relationship. Otherwise, Leo has no problem moving on, making sure that everyone knows how well they are doing.

Virgo August 23 – September 22

Virgo takes reminiscing to a new level. If it were an Olympic sport, they’d most certainly win a gold medal. Analyzing the past is natural to them. They replay the situation, visualizing different outcomes and even hold imaginary “I should have said…” conversations. They can’t change; it’s something they will do for all their life.

Libra September 23 – October 22

Libra has a special place where they keep all those memories and past emotions. They resist sharing them with every fiber of their being. While, on the outside they appear to be getting on with things, very often their thoughts retreat into to that locked room of the past. That’s why they prefer company to being alone. Distraction works a treat.

Scorpio October 23 – November 21

Scorpio will hang onto those negative memories for a long time, right up until they die. They have a boxful of grudges going back to when they were four years old. While they can forgive, up to a point, they will never ever forget what you did to them. Even if you have no clue yourself what you did to cause offense.

Sagittarius November 22 – December 21

Sagittarius, the Tigger of the zodiac, bounces back after every disappointment, every hurtful remark, every sad event. They truly learn from negativity and become even better versions of themselves as they get older. A bad relationship? Pfft… I’ll have a better one soon. Their optimism and joy in living is a lesson for the rest of us.

Capricorn December 22 – January 19

Capricorn yearns for the halcyon days of youth. Even the hard times look better by comparison to today. Nostalgia and rose-tinted spectacles look at the past with love but can turn the present into a nightmare. Moaning about it doesn’t help, Capricorn. That love of your life? It wasn’t.

Aquarius January 20 – February 18

Aquarius has an interesting method to deal with the past. While they will dive into the memory re-runs, they are very capable of taking those scenarios and making them work in the present. So take that old love affair, and look out for signals that the present one is faltering. Apply the lessons learned back in the day, and you’re back on track. Voila. Adaptability is your middle name, Aquarius.

Pisces February 19 – March 20

Swimming in the murky pools of the past is a favorite Pisces activity. Round and round you go, like a goldfish. Replaying those ill-fated love affairs, listening to all those sad songs, immersing yourself in emotions that should have dissipated a long time ago. You need a deal-with-the-past strategy, Pisces: therapy, or maybe a comedy movie night, might work.

Your Daily Horoscopes for Wednesday, June 12

Moon Alert

Avoid shopping or important decisions from 11 AM to midnight EDT today (8 AM to 9:15 PM PDT). After that, the Moon moves from Libra into Scorpio.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Today the Moon is opposite your sign, which means you have to go more than halfway when dealing with others. Nevertheless, check the Moon Alert above and you will see that most of this day is also a Moon Alert. (Yikes!) Make no important decisions or big purchases!

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Today at work, you might have an urge to make things better or introduce reforms but very likely, it will be like herding cats. That’s because most of this day is a Moon Alert, which is a very loosey-goosey situation. Wait until tomorrow.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

During a Moon Alert, one should avoid important decisions and major expenditures; however, it’s easy to be creative and think outside of the box! Today this could favour you by enhancing the arts, socializing and playful activities with kids.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

If possible, follow your desire to cocoon at home today because this will feel right. However, avoid disputes about how to do things or improve things, especially this morning because they will simply be heated arguments that amount to nothing.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This is a fuzzy day. The early morning on the East Coast is not bad; but the Moon Alert begins in BC and lasts all day (8 AM to 9:15 PM PDT.) Oy! Expect delays, shortages and vague confusion. The upside of a Moon Alert is it’s a social time and it encourages creativity.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Today the Moon is in your Money House but most of this day is a Moon Alert, which means you should postpone important financial decisions and restrict spending to food, gas and entertainment. You can do your homework. But do not act until the Moon Alert is over.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Today the Moon Alert is in your sign, which is why you may feel adrift and lacking in motivation or direction. It’s minor; however, restrict spending to food, gas and entertainment. Don’t volunteer for anything important. Don’t agree to anything important.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Just tread water today because it’s a fuzzy day. Travel, the media, publishing plus medicine and the law are your focus; nevertheless, be smart and wait until today’s Moon Alert is over before you make any important decisions.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

This is a wonderful day to schmooze with others, especially female companions. You might also explore goals for the future with someone. Nevertheless, don’t agree to anything until the Moon Alert is over. Forewarned is forearmed.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

This is a poor day to make a major decision because of the Moon Alert. (However, on the East Coast, things are okay until 11 AM EDT.) The irony is that if you make a poor decision it will be public and you will have egg on your face. Not good! (Ketchup helps.)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Today is the day to run away and join the circus. Agree to nothing important because of the Moon Alert. However, because you can think outside of the box, you are full of original ideas! Wait until tomorrow to see if you should act on them.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You might be focused on taxes, debt, shared property, inheritances and the wealth of your partner or someone else. Discussions about shared responsibilities might also be on the table. Please note: This is a poor day to decide anything or to spend money.

If Your Birthday Is Today

University Professor-clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson (1962) shares your birthday today. You are intelligent, humorous and very quick to change your mood. You are interested in many topics and are very social and friendly. Service to others is your theme this year in terms of responsibilities to family as well as to yourself. Therefore, take care of yourself so that you are a strong resource. Invest in the relationships that you value. Tap into your personal creativity and hobbies.

Your Daily Love Horoscopes for Wednesday, June 12 & Thursday, June 13

Pisces Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

Something that becomes more demanding or possibly time-consuming on your part could have a knock-on effect to affairs of the heart or a special relationship. It might be something you see as manageable, but a loved one or someone sees differently. If circumstances dictate that your focus may need to shift elsewhere briefly, then there are benefits to making this clear. What you do or undertake now, you do with someone’s best interests in mind, and that’s what matters.

Pisces tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

Your emotional world or a cherished connection could benefit from warm rays of sunshine permeating either or both. However, you could be inclined to look into the shadows and focus more on the darker aspects of your love life or a special relationship. This creates negative energy that can become stronger if it’s allowed to get a foothold. Focus instead on adopting an attitude of gratitude toward all that you have to be appreciative of where affairs of the heart are concerned. Plenty of intriguing options exist if you’re willing to spot them.

Capricorn Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

There’s no time like the present to put a romantic or relationship plan into action, and if there’s something you’ve been holding back from taking the initiative with in your emotional world or a close relationship, then seize a chance now to do so. What gets put in place at this time has a strong connection with the future, and that’s where your focus appears to be. If your heart encourages you to make a move or long-term decision, then step forward confidently.

Capricorn tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

You could prove anyone wrong who believes that logic and practicality can’t create something magical when it comes to affairs of the heart. You could experience a creative breakthrough in your emotional world or one a special connection, but it will be due to your ability to remain grounded end apply the most sensible plan of action to your current love life circumstances that can achieve it. Magic doesn’t always need spontaneity to manifest.

Sagittarius Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

There are benefits to knowing when enough has been said to the object of your affections – and knowing as well when to let what has been said be absorbed and understood. Your keenness to make a point could involve you going to unnecessary and excessive lengths to do so. Your ability to be as good at listening as you are talking won’t be unappreciated by someone close now.

Sagittarius tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

It could be by connecting with your curious and optimistic qualities that you can transform something in your emotional world or one special connection from being tedious to potentially thrilling. Although you can’t inject your unique brand of spontaneity to every aspect of your love life, you could experience revelations that can quickly turn something mundane into something magical.

Scorpio Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

A door that may have been shut in your emotional world for some time could reopen now or shortly. As an obstacle to romantic or relationship progress becomes removed, it’s possible a new level of collaboration with a loved one holds more promise or potential than you thought it did. Your relationship with a special individual might never be the same again – but the new era commencing promises that this will be for all the right reasons!

Scorpio tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

You could feel understandably frustrated if you’re trying to make a point to a loved one or a potential partner but feel that your efforts fall on deaf ears. However, your desire to be listened to could be so intense that it creates complications in your relationship rather than helps it. Try to take the high road, even if a difference of opinion exists between you and your paramour. You have passionate energy that could be applied in much more positive and pleasurable ways.

Libra Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

Thinking bigger and bolder about what you want to achieve and who you want at your side can boost levels of excitement and inspiration in your emotional world or one special connection. You’re encouraged to broaden your horizons and if you feel inspired to learn, explore or discover, then so too will a loved one or close companion. Embarking upon a learning or mind-broadening experience will be better if done together rather than solo.

Libra tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

It could be your ability to see your emotional world or a special connection from a broader perspective that helps you to gain a more accurate understanding of where it’s heading. If you’re attached, then you may see changing circumstances in a way your lover doesn’t. Whether single or attached, the spontaneous revelations that come your way at this time can be integral to achieving one important and potentially heart-warming goal.

Virgo Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

What has been vague or on a shaky footing with matters of the heart could come under scrutiny as you feel a stronger need for stability and certainty in your emotional life. This might be the result of starting to ‘think bigger’ about what you want from a love relationship and how what’s ill-defined can benefit from becoming more certain. For some Virgos, it may be time for a relationship to deepen or move to a delightfully new level.

Virgo tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

As intriguing or possibly thrilling as a plan or adventure you’re considering embarking upon with a loved one may be, you might need to give thought to covering more bases than you anticipated. Your plan needs to be considered from more than one angle which involves asking yourself certain questions and possibly having a conversation with a loved one about what both of you want. Before you take a step you’re considering, allow a bit more information to come to you. It’s likely to find you.

Leo Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

You could be aware of how deep feelings and passions could replace uncertainty in your emotional world or one special connection now. If you’re a single Leo wishing you shared a deep bond, then you could have options that rely on removing yourself from usual or familiar surroundings. Whether single or attached, travel or exploring new places can boost your romantic prospects wonderfully.

Leo tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

If you’ve set unrealistic expectations regarding your love life for one special relationship, then coming events could encourage you to reassess them practically. Rather than focus on all that’s dreamy and fanciful, you may need to connect with your inner logic and apply a realistic attitude toward what your heart wants and what’s within your ability to achieve

Cancer Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

If you or your paramour have struggled to find a work life/love life balance recently, then this could be an issue that might need to become tenser briefly before action can be taken to restore balance. Career responsibilities can’t be shirked but remember what all work and no play did to someone named Jack. You and a loved one can help each other to adopt more of a ‘work to live’ rather than ‘live to work’ attitude now.

Cancer tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

You might regard a commitment made to a loved one or someone special as open-ended, but they could see it as a cast-iron promise made. It might be necessary for you to treat this as a priority because the object of your affections could hold you to your word. If rearranging your diary or schedule is necessary to accommodate this obligation, then you may need to be creative and flexible with doing so.

Gemini Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

If you’re a single Gemini, then you could be increasingly aware of how delightful romantic opportunities probably won’t arrive out of the blue or on their own. If you’re to enjoy a deeper level of romantic fulfillment, then you may need to be more willing to make yourself available and possibly take someone up on their offer of assistance or support. Regardless of your relationship status, progress with matters of the heart relies on coming from you now.

Gemini tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

If you feel as if a fire has been lit within you or something has boosted your mojo wonderfully, then this could be something you want to share with a loved one or potential partner. Magic could be synchronizing wonderfully between you and a certain person. Whether single or attached, the road ahead to a deeper level of passionate fulfillment could be straighter and clearer than it has appeared for some time.

Taurus Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

Certain tedious romantic or relationship routines could drain your energy and enthusiasm, but your vision of your love life future is becoming stronger and deserves as much faith and effort as you can give it. Mundane matters will always need attention, but you’re able to draw deeper levels of motivation and inspiration from what’s occurring with affairs of the heart now. Whether single or attached, this is a time to be experimental, brave, and aim high!

Taurus tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

Turbulence or disruption in your emotional world or within a special connection could take the form of a loved one not showing you respect you deserve or making you feel unappreciated. This could feel more frustrating or confusing if you know that you’ve applied plenty of diligence to keep things harmonious and buoyant between you. Chances are, this removes you from any fault, so make sure you don’t create reasons to blame yourself or believe an apology must come from you. Neither likely applies.

Aries Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

Your passionate intensity can be powerfully sexy but could require you to show a bit of restraint, especially as you could be at risk of coming on too strong or releasing an avalanche of emotions someone’s direction. As much as what you might feel toward a certain person is growing in intensity, romantic or relationship progress relies on your ability to control it.

Aries tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

Be honest about your reasons regarding the lengths you’re prepared to go to impress a loved one or potential partner at this time. Demonstrating or proving love with a grand material gesture could be far removed from what a loved one wants or expects. With imagination and a modicum of creativity, you could convey what’s on your mind or in your heart in ways that are much more practical, memorable, and pleasurable.

Aquarius Daily Love Horoscope

Wednesday 12th of June 2019

Your sense of fun and adventure could be ignited, and as keen as you may be to throw caution to the wind and whisk a loved one away somewhere or embark on a physical or mental journey, a restriction could create a hurdle with plans made now. You might not be able to overcome this hampering influence immediately, but connecting with your ability to improvise can create a very pleasing alternative.

Aquarius tomorrow love horoscope:

Thursday 13th of June 2019

If you feel extra-sentimental at this time, then this can be a positive experience rather than one that causes you to feel melancholy. It could be by reconnecting with memories or lessons of love learned in the past that can bring a sense of stability or grounding that helps you feel more optimistic about both the present and the future. Once this happens, it’s time to start looking forward once again.

Your Daily Cosmic Calendar for Wednesday, June 12

As indicated in Tuesday’s calendar entry, romantic mood swings may take you on a cosmic detour as Venus forms frictional aspects to the Dragon’s Head (12:54 a.m.), Saturn (3:26 a.m.), and Ceres (5:23 a.m.). Trying too hard to make a significant other see things from your perspective is not advised.

While the moon in Libra trine the sun in Gemini (5:58 a.m.) and Mercury forming an inspirational, 72-degree liaison with Vesta (10:37 a.m.) can temporarily strengthen your physical vitality and assist you with investment planning, a 12 hour void lunar uncertainty zone starts during a moon square to underworld-chieftain Pluto at 8:16 a.m. and continues until watery Scorpio moon arrives at 9:04 p.m. Delve into research projects and investigative work with confidence once the lunar orb is transiting the formidable eighth sign of the zodiac.

Calendar of the Moon for June 12

Calendar of the Moon
12 Duir/Skirophorion

Skirophoria

Colors: Grey and brown
Element: Earth
Altar: Divide the altar in half, with one grey cloth and one brown cloth. On the grey side place a ship and a fish for Poseidon, and for Athena a stack of books selected for their wisdom, the figure of a small city, and a glass cup of wine. On the brown side lay a sickle, a hoe, a basket full of poppies, many small bowls of grain, a cup of ale, and the figure of a small peasant’s hut. On the line between them, place the figure of a golden sun. Before it should be a bowl containing Pentaploa, a mixture of wine, honey, cheese, grains, and olive oil.
Offerings: If you are rural, visit the city. If you are urban or suburban, visit a farm. Do so in the spirit of discovery and appreciation. Also, the day’s exercise at Gymnastika should be running a race, and the runners should carry grapevines in their arms, in honor of the boughs brought to the temple of Athena by ancient runners. Deposit the grapevines before Athena’s shrine.
Daily Meal: Eat food on your trip, wherever you go.

Skirophoria Invocation

(To be given by five people, one each representing Athena, Poseidon, Demeter, Persephone, and Helios. They should wear white, blue, green, red, and gold respectively. They should come together under a white canopy.)

Athena: On this day, long ago, so tradition says, the first harvest was cut of the first grain that mankind ever sowed. Ever since then, the people have been fed from the land. Those of us whose hearts are in the city do come before you today to honor the givers of our nourishment.
Poseidon: From the metropolises of the coasts to the great gathering places of plateau and mountain we come on this day. For we could not live without you to support us. We feed from you, and give you little in return, save trinkets and trouble.
Demeter: We thank you for your honor, and we promise in turn that our abundance shall never cease, so long as you continue your respect. Our lands must remain clean and unfettered by disease and pollution. So long as you grant us that, and safety, and fair commerce, there will always be an equal exchange.
Persephone: We thank you for your honor, but you are wrong in that you give us nothing. You are the keepers of thought and culture. When darkness rushes across the land, as it sometimes must, it is in your domain that such things are kept. You are the memory of our people, as we in our eternal round of seasons cannot always be.
Helios: I have come before you to hear your oaths. Will you serve and protect each other?
All: We shall be as two hands on one body.
Helios: So it is witnessed by the overarching Sun. So shall it be written, so shall it be done.
All Present: So it is witnessed by the overarching Sun. So shall it be written, so shall it be done.

(The Pentaploa is passed and shared, and the ale and wine are poured as a libation.)

Calendar of the Sun

Media Ver

Color: Green
Element: Earth
Altar: Upon a green cloth set growing herbs and flowers in pots, a pitcher of rainwater, small dishes of late-sowed seeds such as lettuce (as many as there are people), a flower wreath, and a single green candle.
Offerings: Seeds to be planted in the garden.
Daily Meal: Vegetarian

Media Ver Invocation

Earth, you have awakened to our touch!
The winds have stirred you,
The rain has nourished you,
The sun has opened your eyes.
Your million mouths open
On the unfolded leaves of every tree.
We glory in your abundance,
In the dance of your youth,
And we dance for your brilliant life
And your new season.
Yet now is the time when the real work begins.
If we would keep what we have sown,
We must not stop here,
But we must labor for the sustenance
Of our creation, as it has always been.
For the first growth is a miracle from the Gods,
But the second growth is the miracle unseen,
From the labor of our hands,
Which is also sacred.

Chant:
Green growing
Green Man knowing
Path of striving
Way of opening

(Each takes a pot of seeds and goes to the garden, and hoes or otherwise prepares a space for planting, and then plants their seeds, chanting while doing so. The pitcher of rainwater is carried out and ritually poured onto the seeds. Weeding should also be done at this time, and the care for plants that have already broken the surface.)

In the Sky This Month

The planets seem especially busy this month, entering and exiting the dawn and dusk skies. Venus ends its reign as the Morning Star, dropping too low into the dawn twilight to see. Mars nears the end of its long and brilliant run over the last year as it drops lower in the sky each evening. It has a brief encounter with Mercury, which loops into view in the western sky for a good part of the month. Mighty Jupiter, on the other hand, lords over the sky all night.

June 12: Moon and Spica
Spica, the leading light of the constellation Virgo, is to the lower right of the Moon as night falls. Spica consists of two big, bright, heavy stars. They are so close together that each one distorts the shape of the other, making them look like eggs.

June 13: Summer Triangle
The Summer Triangle is climbing into view in the eastern evening sky. Its highest and brightest point is the star Vega. The northern point is Deneb, the tail of the swan, while its southern point is Altair, the brightest star of the eagle.

June 14: Vega
Vega, the second-brightest star in the northern half of the sky, is in great view as we head toward summer. Vega is well up in the east-northeast as darkness falls and climbs high overhead later on.

June 15: Moon and Company
The Moon has two bright companions tonight. The star Antares stands to the lower right of the Moon as night falls, with the brilliant planet Jupiter about the same distance to the lower left of the Moon.

June 16: Beautiful Pairings
The full Moon and the planet Jupiter keep company tonight. Jupiter looks like a brilliant star to the upper right of the Moon at nightfall. Both worlds align opposite the Sun right now, so they qre in view all night.

June 17: Cygnus
Cygnus, the swan, is beginning its climb to prominence in the summer sky. It is low in the east and northeast a couple of hours after sunset. Its long, graceful body runs parallel to the horizon, with its wings stretched to either side.

June 18: Moon and Saturn
The planet Saturn appears just a whisker above the Moon as they climb into view in late evening. The giant planet looks like a bright star. It will be a little farther to the right of the Moon at first light tomorrow.

A Look At The Stars for June 12 thru June 16

Thursday, June 13
00:02 am – Moon enters Scorpio

Friday, June 14
02:11 am – Mars trine Neptune from Monday to Sunday stimulates your sensuality, creativity and community spirit. You will enjoy a strong magnetic attractiveness and sultry charm which makes this an ideal time for passionate romances. Sexual encounters would be strongly compassionate, tender and spiritual in nature.
11:49 am – Mars opposite Saturn from Tuesday to Sunday brings frustration, disappointment, and anger. Frustration is due to other people standing in your way. Disappointment comes from unfulfilled desires.

Saturday, June 15
05:02 am – Moon enters Sagittarius

Sunday, June 16
07:42 am – Mercury trine Neptune from Friday to Monday stimulates your creativity, imagination, sensitivity, and spirituality. While not such a good time for reading the fine print or studying factoids, your mind is ready to dream up fantasies or obscure theories.
10:00 am – Mercury opposite Saturn from Saturday to Monday brings serious thinking and conversation, but also negativity and sadness. Poor self-esteem can lead to communication difficulties and isolation. Being alone studying or on the computer would feel more comfortable than being in social situations.
11:21 am – Jupiter square Neptune all month brings a test of your faith due to an embarrassing loss of face or some disappointment. You may have been too trusting or over-idealized a romantic interest. It is important to cut your losses as soon as the reality of the situation shatters your illusion.

Once you use the Big Dipper to find Arcturus, you’re well on the way to locating the 9th-magnitude asteroid 2 Pallas. From Arcturus, move 6.4° west-northwest to 5th-magnitude 6 Boötis, then another 2.4° northwest to 6th-magnitude 2 Boo. Tonight, Pallas lies 3.0° west-northwest of 2 Boo and right next to a 9th-magnitude field star. If you watch these two for a couple of hours, you’ll notice Pallas shifting position, confirming its identity as a solar system member.

For people who live near 35° north latitude, today marks the earliest sunrise of the year. Although the Northern Hemisphere’s longest day doesn’t occur until Earth’s summer solstice June 21, earliest sunrise happens several days before and latest sunset several days after. The specific dates depend on your latitude, however. In general, earliest sunrise occurs closer to the solstice the farther north you live.

Grab your binoculars tonight and target the bright star Regulus in the constellation Leo the Lion. Many people know that this object represents the Lion’s heart, but few realize it also is a binocular double. Regulus B, which glows at 8th magnitude, shows up as a pinpoint nearly 3′ from the 1st-magnitude primary. The pair stands about 20° high in the west once darkness falls.

Although Saturn won’t reach opposition and peak visibility until next month, observers will be hard-pressed to see its current appearance as inferior. The ringed planet rises around 10 p.m. local daylight time and appears highest in the south around 3 a.m. Saturn shines at magnitude 0.2 and stands out against the background stars of northern Sagittarius. If you target the beautiful world through a telescope, you’ll see its 18″-diameter disk surrounded by a ring system that spans 41″ and tilts 24° to our line of sight.

Sunday, June 16
Full Moon officially arrives at 4:31 a.m. EDT tomorrow morning, but it looks completely illuminated all night. It appears low in the southeast as the Sun sets and climbs highest in the south around 1 a.m. local daylight time. The Full Moon resides among the background stars of southeastern Ophiuchus, though residents in western North America will see it slide into western Sagittarius by daybreak. You can expect a lot of people to ask what that bright object sitting next to the Moon is. Brilliant Jupiter lies just 5° from the Moon after sundown and a couple of degrees farther away by daybreak

Powerful superflares could pose a threat to Earth

Young and active stars often experience wildly strong eruptions. Now we know our older, calmer Sun may occasionally throw similar tantrums.
By Jake Parks

Astronomers have learned over the past decade that even large solar flares — powerful bursts of radiation — from our Sun are actually small potatoes compared to some of the flares we see around other stars. It’s now common to spot “superflares” hundreds to thousands of times more powerful than the Sun’s flares from stars hundreds of light-years away. Earlier this year, researchers even identified a star that emitted a turbocharged flare some 10 billion times more energetic than those typically seen bursting from the Sun.

These superflares are mainly observed in young, active stars. But new research presented Monday at the 234th Meeting of the American Astronomical Society in St. Louis shows that even our middle-aged, relatively docile Sun is capable of producing some astoundingly powerful flares — albeit only once every one to two millennia. The work was also published May 3 in The Astrophysical Journal.

“Young stars have superflares once every week or so,” said the study’s lead author, Yuta Notsu of the University of Colorado Boulder, in a press release. “For the Sun, it’s once every few thousand years on average.”

Roughly speaking, about 30 to 50 percent of superflares produced by the Sun can strike the Earth, Notsu said. This means that we can expect a superflare about 100 times bigger than normal to strike Earth about once every 10,000 years or so.

And we could be overdue. “Our study shows that superflares are rare events,” Notsu said. “But there is some possibility that we could experience such an event in the next 100 years or so.”

Sizing up superflares
To carry out the study, Notsu and his team first teased through data from the Kepler Space Telescope, which spent the past decade looking for planets by monitoring how stars change in brightness over time. Working from a sample of about 90,000 Sun-like stars, the researchers identified more than 1,000 superflares from about 300 stars.

At first, they thought these stars would be rapidly rotating. That’s because quickly spinning stars tend to have strong magnetic fields that easily get tangled up, which is thought to kick off flares. But a fast spin is apparently not a requirement for strong eruptions. By bolstering their brightness data with size estimates from the Gaia satellite, the researchers were able to determine how fast their flaring stars were spinning. They found that, as expected, stars that rotate once every few days had superflares about 20 times as powerful as more slowly spinning stars like the Sun, which rotates about once every 25 days. However, Sun-like stars were still seen producing hazardous superflares.

Brace yourself
The confirmation that slowly rotating, Sun-like stars can still throw out powerful superflares is surely intriguing, but it’s also a bit nerve-wracking.

“When our Sun was young, it was very active because it rotated very fast and probably generated more powerful flares,” said Notsu. “But we didn’t know if such large flares occur on the modern Sun with very low frequency.”

There is one historical point of reference, though. In September 1859, a solar flare sent a wave of charged particles washing over our planet. It triggered one of the most powerful geomagnetic storms ever recorded: the Carrington Event. As the particles slammed into Earth’s protective magnetic field, they triggered beautiful aurorae that stretched as far south as Hawaii and Cuba. But the Carrington Event didn’t just produce pretty lights in the sky. It also wreaked havoc on telegraph networks spread across North America and Europe. In fact, there are reports of the cosmically overcharged telegraph lines starting fires and shocking telegraph operators during the event.

If a moderate flare like the Carrington Event notably disrupted electronic systems in the mid-1800s, what would a superflare some 100 times stronger do today?

“If a superflare occurred 1,000 years ago, it was probably no big problem. People may have seen a large aurora,” Notsu said. “Now, it’s a much bigger problem because of our electronics.”

How big that problem will be is yet to be determined. “More accurate evaluations of the effects of superflares is a next urgent task,” Notsu told Astronomy, “but we can now expect things such as large-scale blackouts, satellite communication failure, and strong radiation in space,” which can do serious damage to instruments and astronauts alike.

To prepare ourselves for what may be an inevitable strike by a superflare, Notsu says we need to work on protecting our electronics by investing in radiation shielding and backup systems

“This topic should [start to be considered] seriously from now on,” Notsu stressed.

Lunar Lore

The first time you see a crescent moon for the month, take all your spare coins out of your pocket, and put them in the other pocket. This will ensure good luck for the next month.

Some people believe that the fifth day after a full moon is the perfect time to try to conceive a child.
Many cultures throughout history have honored lunar deities, including Artemis, Selene, and Thoth.
In some Chinese religions, offerings are made to the ancestors on the night of a full moon.

In some Native American legends, the moon is held captive by a hostile tribe. A pair of antelope hope to rescue the moon and take it the village of a good tribe, but Coyote, the trickster, interferes. The antelope chase Coyote, who tosses the moon into a river each night, just out of reach of the antelope.
The night of the full moon is believed to be a good time for divination and scrying.

About the Waxing Crescent Moon Phase

The waxing moon is the period during which the moon grows from dark to full. It takes approximately fourteen days for this to happen. In many magical traditions, people use this time of the moon to perform “positive” magic — in other words, magic that draws things to you, or increases things. Some examples would include:
A money spell
A working to get a new job or home
Bringing love into one’s life
Any magic related to increasing material items

JanieDoodle is a reader who lives in North Carolina, and follows a practical magic belief system based in the folklore of her mountain ancestors. “This is the moon phase where stuff gets done,” she says. “Anything I need or am lacking in, I bring it right to me during the waxing moon. As the moon gets closer to full, so does my wallet, my larder, and my garden.”

Moon Phases and Tarot Readings
Can the phase of the moon influence your Tarot readings? Just like any other magical or metaphysical practice, some people believe that timing is everything – or at the very least, something. This means that if you have something specific you need to focus on – and it’s not a matter of immediate urgency – then doing your reading during a certain moon phase could definitely enhance the results you get, as well as your own intuitive skills.

About the Celtic Tree Month of Duir (Oak)
(Une 10 – July 7)

The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is aoakTree2.jpg (4746 bytes) translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word “robust”). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae).

A Little Trivia for Your Wednesday: Who Is Wednesday Named For?

Where did the name Wednesday come from?
Surprise, surprise … Wednesday Addams wasn’t the originator of the name.
In fact, the name Wednesday actually derives from two mighty but distinct gods. The Old English word for Wednesday indicates that the day was named for the Germanic god Woden. In Romance languages, the name is derived from the Roman god Mercury. (For example, Wednesday is mercredi in French and miercuri in Romanian.)

Woden (also known as Odin) and Mercury have been associated since Scandinavian and Roman cultures crossed paths. Under Woden’s supervision, the earth and sky were created from the dead body of a giant named Ymir. Woden also created the first man and woman from an ash tree and an alder. As if fashioning the human race wasn’t enough, Woden also established the laws of the universe.

(The wacky history of Tuesday makes the origin of Wednesday seem boring …)

Mercury was the messenger to the gods, along with being the patron of science, the arts, travelers, and athletes. Today, he is one of the most widely recognized gods. Usually, he’s depicted wearing a winged helmet and sandals.

How did Wednesday become hump day?
Starting around 1965, Wednesday began being referred to as hump day. Smack dab in the middle of the traditional work week, arriving at Wednesday symbolizes that we’ve made it over the hump and the weekend is in sight.

Let’s Talk Witch – How to Meditate

Find a quiet space where you will be undisturbed. If you have an altar, that’s an ideal spot.

Seat yourself comfortably. You may wish to assume the Lotus position, sitting on a cushion on the floor with your legs crossed, pelvis tilted forward, shoulders back, and spine straight.

If sitting on the floor is painful or uncomfortable, sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor, your spine straight, and your hands on your knees.

Close your eyes and breathe deeply.

As you breathe, feel your body relaxing completely.

Check in with your body, turning your attention first to your feet, then to your ankles, to your shins, and so on up to the top of your head. Feel each part of your body relaxing with your breath.

If a part of you contains built-up tension, simply accept that it is there and continue breathing.

At this point, you may begin doing a visualization exercise, or you may move into a deep, meditative state. Let’s move into a deeper meditative state.

Continue breathing. Focus all your consciousness on your breath.

Do not try to control your breathing. Simply let your body do what it does naturally.

Thoughts will come into your head. Let them come, and let them go.

Return your awareness to your breathing.

Continue breathing in and breathing out.

Repeat the last three steps again and again.

After you have done this for a while, you will reach a place inside of yourself that is beyond words.

Tips:
Don’t get discouraged! Meditation is harder than it sounds. Be gentle with yourself and do what you can do today.

Meditation gets easier with practice. Try to meditate every day, even if it is just for five minutes. The longer you can sit, the deeper you can go.

Meditation is like listening to God/dess. But in order to listen, you first must still your own mind so that you can hear what S/He has to say. Have faith that S/He is there, waiting to speak to you.

Spirit Message of the Day – A Sacred Act of Love; A Wild and Pure Heart

A MESSAGE FROM WU WANG

“In times of olde, they said that only those who were pure could connect with those like myself. That the virgin could connect with Unicorn. That the child could see the meaning of God. That the Fae would truly see into your heart, and finding it corrupt, would never appear to you. I am here to tell you that your heart is pure and wild and innocent. It is that you have forgotten how to see us, that you have been told that in order to see us, you must be perfect. That in order to see us, you must be mad, unclean, broken, and if you say you have seen us, you face being shunned.”

“I am here to say to you that we appear to those who have looked into the hearts and have seen beyond the woundings…because within you there is a wild and untrammelled heart space which is free of any taint. In that space we can enter and therefore, we can and will be seen again. You were not born into this world wrong or sinful. There may be karmic markings, but you are no sinner, nor are you corrupt or unworthy. Foster that which is wild and pure and good within you, and we will begin to appear and come forth. You will feel us on the wind, in the water, see us in the fire and hear our voices emanating from the heart of our mother, the Earth. You are a child of the Mother, call her what you will, and at your core you are a one of the wild ones. That is my message for you.”

ABOUT WU-WANG
“Wu-Wang is a Dragonfae Lord who has been both a dynastic ruler in human form and whose energy has entered the Chinese system of philosophy and divination known as the I-Ching. His mind is very natural and honest; he has an innately good nature and encourages us to be the same, and to know we can be the same, no matter how we have behaved in the past. Truth and innocence of nature can be reclaimed and furthermore, these traits bring about good fortune personally, and for Gaia, Dana and our Mother.”

A MESSAGE FOR YOU
“Know you are innocent and cultivate that aspect of yourself. Know that your innocence and goodness lies within you no matter what actions you have taken in the past: This present moment is a chance to reclaim that pure and wild heart. When you do that, you will be able to see, feel and sense clearly the presence of magickal beings, including the Dragonfae and particularly the Unicorn. Wu-Wang will also help you to eat organically, well and healthfully. Take nothing into your body without contemplating whether it will erode or grow that wild pure heart and act accordingly. Dance, sing, play music, and make love…all of these acts, done with innocent, wild joy, are healing and part of the sacred act of Love.”

WORKING WITH WU-WANG
“Stay pure and wild and innocent. Devote part of your daily life to the development of the pure wild part of you. Let something be beyond your control. Do not attempt to control and predict the outcome of all. Know that innocent also means that you have not known all; and come from that place, which is noble and humble. When we do so, our expectations and controlling behaviors depart, as does the drama. In their place come insights and much communication with the magickal web of life, including mermaids, unicorns, centaurs, and the Dragonfae, dryads and other innerworld beings that may have yet been unseen by your eyes.”

Today’s message is from Oracle of the Dragonfae by Lucy Cavendish.

“Blessed Are The Witches”

Good Wednesday Morning Brothers & Sisters of the Craft! May You Have A Very Blessed Day!

Merry Meet

The Awakening

Let me sing you a tale of magics of old,
of powers that slumbered through long years untold.
Let me weave you a song of a memory revived,
calling the Old Ones, their time has arrived.

Bale fires are lighting through all of the land,
the fey folk are dancing, their hour is at hand.
Their music is heard in the chattering stream,
their call echoes out on the wings of a dream.

Beyond the townships, where common folk sleep,
in moors and in meadows, in forests so deep,
Witches are gathering at the dark of the night,
to dance and to worship, bathe in moonlight.

They’ve winded the horn, they have opened the door,
the magics returning to slumber no more.
By the spells they have woven, the runes the have told,
they’ve awakened the Goddess, and the Horned One of old.

And those who have gathered now join hand in hand,
their voices are chanting, throughout all the land.
The God and the Goddess, at last will be heard,
their children, the witches, are spreading the word.

They sing songs of power when the moon, she is high,
They chant songs of joy when the sunrise is nigh,
They dance through the meadows, and through darkened streets,
join their ancient rhythm, when your circle meets,

Come dance to their rhythm, when your circle meets.
