Altar: Upon a purple cloth lay nine purple candles, a great cup of wine, the figure of a ship, deck of Tarot or other divinatory cards, and the figure of a Wheel of Fortune.
Offerings: Take a chance.
Daily Meal: Potluck, with everyone contributing one dish, which is not discussed beforehand.

Fortuna Invocation

Lady of the whirling wheel
That throws some up and flings some down;
Lady who both wounds and heals,
Lady who spins us round and round,
We beg you, Fortuna, for your bounty,
And pray you will not cast us aside,
For we cannot let go of your magnificent wheel,
But we all must hang on for the ride.
Maker of chances and opportunity,
Tradition says you are bald behind,
That seizing you by the oncoming forelock
And hoping that you will be kind
Is the only way to win your favor,
But we know what they do not.
You are never kind, yet many times
You will give the slow ones a second shot.
Stormy lady, sailor’s mistress,
Tormentor of the ship at sea,
You come to us like a gypsy’s laughter
And leave us almost silently.
We spin the wheel, we roll the dice,
We patch our wounds across the rift,
We call for you once, we weep for you twice,
We honor you and your ambivalent gift.

(Each comes forth and draws a card; it is a message from Fortuna. Unlike other divination sessions, on this day each must reveal to the others what card was received, and it can be discussed among the House members. Such is luck.)

Burning of the Lamps

 

A ceremony called the Burning of the Lamps was held on June 24 in ancient Egypt. Dedicated to the Goddess Neith, it took place in a crypt beneath the temple of the great Goddess Isis in the city of Sais, and involved the circling of a coffin (representing the corpse of Osiris) by devotees bearing burning lamps (symbolizing lunar light and the moon’s powers of healing and resurrection ). This festival emphasized the roles that both Neith and Isis played in their aspect as moon and underworld deities, Neith was also regarded as the creator of Sais and the inventor of weaving.

Outdoor lanterns

To make an outdoor lantern, first clean a tin can, then, using it nail and hammer, punch a decorative pattern into it, plus two holes at the top for the handle (hook each end of a length of wire into these). Now drop in a burning tea light and  hang your lantern from a sturdy branch

 Merry Meet Brothers & Sisters of the Craft! It is good to see you visiting the WOTC today. I hope you have plan for a very enjoyable day. Sunday to me is a very sad day. It is the last day of the weekend. I manage to mope around and think about all the things I wanted to do. But didn’t manage to get done. Well, I guess there is always next weekend.

I will admit I was scared blogging yesterday. This is the first blog, I have ever operated. I hope you will have patience with me. I pride myself on being a quick learner. But this blogging thing isn’t that simple. I hope I will become efficient at it and not let you down. I am going to try to pick up my speed today. Hopefully for all of our sakes, Lady A will be back soon. Then we can all breath a sigh of relief.

We all know that if it were not for the little kindnesses, the helping hands that we receive from those who touch our lives daily, we would fall more often and much harder. Yet, we must remember there comes a time when we cannot expect others to rush to our aid. It is then that we test the strength of our own self-reliance.

We should make every effort to be worthy of the concern and help of others. It is sharing all phases of life that make living more than just an existence. But none of us can support others for long who have no will to use their self-reliance. It is said that God helps those who help themselves, but even God cannot help where help is refused.

Then, how much can we depend on ourselves? How would we react to the same situations we see other people experiencing daily? We, who depend so much on our external advantages to pull us through, cannot truthfully foretell our actions in a crisis. But we can have a reserve of faith and strength behind us so that when others reach out to lift us up, we will be worthy of their time spent in helping to build our self-reliance.

Attitude is everything if the day is to go well. If we require others to have patience with us and give us u we to li s di, the Cherokee word for pity or sympathy, then our minds are going to be on whether or not we get it, instead of on living well. We forget that we project to others how we want to be treated. Arrogance invites resistance. Hangdog attitudes invite other sour and sullen looks and behavior. Good-natured people are always welcome and give peace to our minds. Whatever we are about, it is to our advantage to know the world is reflecting back to us the mirror-image of pleasant manners – or the stern appearance of touch-me-not. It takes so little to relax and enjoy, so that others can do the same.

Northern Green Flash

Explanation: As seen from Frösön island in northern Sweden the Sun did set a day after the summer solstice. From that location below the arctic circle it settled slowly behind the northern horizon. During the sunset’s final minute, this remarkable sequence of 7 images follows the distorted edge of the solar disk as it just disappears against a distant tree line, capturing both a green and blue flash. Not a myth even in a land of runes, the colorful but ellusive glints are caused by atmospheric refraction enhanced by long, low, sight lines and strong atmospheric temperature gradients.
